Opening Question:

  • Who in your personal life is the wisest person you know?

    • What about them makes them wise?

Read Proverbs 1:

  • What are some of the reasons Solomon gives us for desiring Wisdom?

  • If you had to use another name for the wisdom he is offering, what would it be? What word would describe the absence of this wisdom?

  • If you had to use another word for “fear of the Lord", what would that be? 

  • In verse 20, Wisdom is portrayed as a woman. Why do you think that is? Find the other verses in these 4 chapters that describe wisdom as a woman.

  • In verse 12-17 What does wisdom save us from?

Read Proverbs 3

  • Verse 5-7: What does this verse have to do with prioritizing all of the learnings we gather through our lives?

Read Proverbs 4

  • In verse 3 and 4, there is a transition from the mother to the father. What does this tell us about the role of families in raising children? 

Read 1 John 2:15-17

  • How is John’s warning about loving the world similar to Solomon’s call to wisdom?

Read 1 Corinthians 6:18

  • Is the over sexualization of society a new problem? What solution is proposed in these verses?

Application

  • What is the difference between wisdom and knowledge?

  • In what ways will you seek wisdom as opposed to knowledge throughout this study?

  • How can your group encourage you?
