The Real Jesus - Week 1

The Historical Jesus

Getting to Know You:

  • When was the last time you changed your opinion / belief about something major?

Digging Deeper:

Read Colossians 1: 15-21

  • As a group, brainstorm a list of Christ’s qualities.

  • In light of this list and looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything you heard for the first time or something that caught your attention, challenged or confused you?

  • What do you think people mean when they say the “real” Jesus? How might this differ from what people mean when they speak of the “Historical Jesus”

  • Even before Jesus came, his life was foretold in in the Old Testament. Why do you think it was so difficult for many to recognize him, even though he fulfilled so many specific prophesies?

    Read Luke 4:18-21:

  • When Jesus spoke these words, what did they mean to the worshippers that heard them? What is the point for us today?

    Read John 5:1-14:

  • What about this story leads you to believe that it is a historical account?

Taking it Home
