Week #1

Pastor Doug tackles the definition of love throughout history, what it actually does, and in what ways it works.
Jesus never forsakes us or leaves us. We know this is what real love is because we are attracted it. Love is all about presence, Jesus never turns us away in a need to have time to himself.

1 John 4:7-11
7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
Matthew 1:22-23

22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:

23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel”

(which means, God with us).

Week #2

In week 2 we look at the promises Jesus makes to us in love and why Jesus never promises us that we will never lose or mess up in life.

Humility conquers a critical spirit.  It’s not until you find the freedom to fail, will you ever appreciate success.  And the only way to achieve THAT.. is through humility.  Humility is all about knowing about the promises that God makes to you and the ones he has not.  Because that’s what Love Does.  Love always keeps its promise.

John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world,[a] that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Luke 4:18 – “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
    because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,

John 15:5 – I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

Galatians 5:22 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

Week #3

We look at how God helps us understand the true meaning of love through him.  If we are living in “love”, then we are living in “God”.  Doug introduces us to Phileo, Eros, Ludus, Pragma, Philautia, and Agape types of love.

Love should be the highest aspiration in life.  It should be the thing that drives you and inspires you because in the end it is the only thing that brings meaning, purpose, and joy to our lives.  Those that live in love, live in God.

1 John 4:8 – Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love….

1 John 4:16 – So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
